We're Watching The Financial Industry and Building Cases One Abuse At A Time.
S.C.C.A.A.M. exists for one reason: to bring evidence and visibility to consumer credit abuse and manipulation that too often gets buried in “process.” Credit reports, FICO scores and most importantly the financial institutions reporting those records influence whether you get approved, what you pay, and sometimes where you can live or work—yet consumers routinely face errors, automated dispute handling, and slow or ineffective corrections.
Federal complaint data shows how widespread the problem is: in 2024 the CFPB routed more than 2.8 million consumer complaints to companies, and credit and consumer reporting made up the majority share.
We track patterns, publish documented cases, and translate complex rules into practical steps so everyday Americans can push back with facts—not noise. Regulators and watchdog groups have repeatedly raised concerns about credit report accuracy and the dispute process, including findings that a meaningful share of consumers have significant credit report errors that can affect terms, and recent enforcement actions alleging “sham” investigations of disputes. Our goal is credibility: receipts, timelines, and clear accountability—without sensational claims. If a system can financially punish someone who isn’t part of the “2%,” it can handle scrutiny, transparency, and due process.

S.C.C.A.A.M. is an independent public-interest project focused on consumer credit, credit reporting, and financial-institution conduct. We publish commentary, consumer experiences, and documentation to inform the public and encourage accountability—activity protected by the U.S. Constitution’s free speech, free press, and petition principles.
Contributors may submit reviews, opinions, and firsthand accounts in good faith. Federal law generally voids certain “gag” terms in form contracts that attempt to prohibit or penalize honest consumer reviews of a company’s goods, services, or conduct. Nothing published here is intended as legal advice, and publication of content is not a waiver of any author’s rights to speak publicly, report concerns to regulators, or seek lawful remedies. In Georgia, certain claims aimed at chilling protected speech or petition activity may be subject to procedural protections under Georgia’s anti-SLAPP statute.
This site may host user-generated content; under federal law, a website that hosts content provided by others is generally not treated as the publisher or speaker of that third-party content (subject to important legal exceptions). Where we include limited excerpts of documents or other materials for purposes such as criticism, comment, or news reporting, we aim to do so consistent with fair use, and we respond to copyright notices consistent with the DMCA framework.
Our subject matter includes the fairness and accuracy concerns Congress recognized as central to credit reporting and the banking system.
